Below is recent feedback received from our course participants. Participants were asked what things will they do differently in thier job as a result of the training:
Identify behaviour and put in place measures to prevent escalation of that behaviour as volunteer and more importantly, for the vols safety as an APL
Be more aware of danger from aggressive children/young people. Be confident to use new skills/protocols used. I feel I will be a better and more useful volunteer. I feel I will be safer on future events. I feel ready to accept roles of 1:1 with additional complex needs children/young people
I believe I will be able to spot these behaviours at a lower end of the scale and have improved my knowledge of what to do to intervene before the situation worsens. Can give advice to newer volunteers on events. If a dangerous situation arises I feel I know how to restrain if necessary.
More confidence and quicker response to challenging behaviour. I now know when not to use restraint if a child is only being agitated. There are other ways of managing that behaviour. There will be less harm for myself and a child
I will now feel confident in my role as a mentor to advise and assist in behaviour issues and incidents. It has raised my awareness and reminded me of previous training and education received in relation to the psychological aspects as well as the physical aspects of the training and child developement. I will be more confident if a situation arises. I feel that I have gained so much knowledge from this training and it was great to work together as a team. I feel that now I will be a more confident volunteer.
I will be taking on the role of our adult safeguarding trainer. I think that i will be more confident advocating the companies policies and procedures throughout the provision, thus bringing to the forefront of our staff's minds the importance of reporting any safeguarding concerns resulting in improved service for our residents.
