Below is recent feedback received from our course participants. Participants were asked what things will they do differently in thier job as a result of the training:
I feel more confident to know how to deal with challenging behaviours in a more effective way and keep myself and the service uses safe.
Support plans will be more informative for service user/staff on how to manage and minimise risk with following the Lalemand behaviour scale worksheet.
Risk plan will be also more informative.
Incident report to be written with correct wording for consistency e.g. agitated level of behaviour, disruptive level of behaviour, destructive level of behaviour, dangerous level of behaviour.
Identify other staff that would benefit from the course and service user teams. Make suggestions to improve paperwork to encourage the behaviour scales, link to incident reports/risk assessments and support documents/designs.
I will integrate the learning into more areas of our current policy and practice. greater reinforcement of use of language structure and processes.
I will recognise and celebrate success within staff who actively promote NAPPI values and principles.
I will incorporate a couple of the new (to me) units. E.g. person of influence including the praise scale.
Although I may not incorporate the hair/bite physical skills (at present not relevant) it is nice to know about them.
The point by point breakdown of narrative for physical skills is most useful and will definitely of benefit to myself (and Those I train)
The NEW Green Behaviour scale appears bit more understandable to me this time than last time.
How to use green skills and red behaviour scales in service user files and complete them with key workers and all the residents when they find new green activities they add their interests to their own charts.
I am planning to include the behaviour scale documentation into my work areas to give common language and consistency.
I will also use green behaviour scale to help support staff caring for residents and to see the clear link between Green and Red scales.
I have renewed confidence in my knowledge and ability to deliver NAPPI.
Having time to write down instructions for some of the physical skills has served as providing a crib/note sheet and a comfort blanket.
I would impart my knowledge and skills learnt to staff in relevant areas to help keep them safe in the service uses safe.
I will discuss the senior leadership level about implementing the behaviour scale into our dementia services.
When working in different areas I will then be observing staff to see any change in their practice/attitude after Nappi training.
It will mean more training to deliver from a personal perspective.
I already use a lot of techniques after 20 years in care, but I like the green and red scale because it gives me a clearer way to train other people on how to value the people they look after. Will be another excellent tool I can use. Hopefully I will not need the physical skills-but good to know.
A more positive pro active approach, that i hope the rest of the staff team can adopt. The behaviour scales and explanations of the De-escalation allow us to use minimum impact and not just charge in.
I believe the whole course will be defining to the the change of culture in our work place, but most of all have a massive positive impact on the service users i work with.
To focus more on the service I provide to ensure preventitive measures are in place to decrease behaviours that may occur due to lack of activity and interest in the individuals life.
To be able to focus on prevention by gathering necessary information in order to be able to prepare for the best course of action for the person.
I feel more confident now to performed my job without thinking im doing it wrong.
Positive learning in dealing with the service users behavior.

To work less disruptive, more kind and relaxed for the service user.
